GACC, RUWA-Ghana and LANet-Tamale Presents Monitoring Findings on Petroleum-Revenue-Funded Projects of Northern Regions

Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC) in  Collaboration with RUWA-Ghana engaged with the media, stakeholders and the Local Accountability Network Tamale (LANet-Tamale) to present findings of a monitoring exercise carried out by the LANet-Tamale on assigned petroleum-funded projects located in the Northern Region. The conference took place on Monday, July 24, 2023 at Archdiocesan Catholic Guest House in Tamale. The presentation was made by the LANet-Tamale Focal Organization, RUWA-Ghana on the states of all the projects monitored.

In his presentation, the focal person for the LANet-Tamale, Mr. Masud Aziz Rauf mentioned that sixteen (16) projects were assigned to the LANet by GACC and they were all duly monitored, starting in April 2023. According to him, out of the sixteen (16) projects, twelve (12) of them were found in Tamale, Sagnarigu, Tolon, Karaga and Savelugu in the northern region and  four (4) in Daboya, savannah region.

Commenting on the states of the projects, Mr Aziz stated that six (6) of the projects were not completed; explaining that some as though were physically completed,  but they were not open to use. He added that the MMDAs did not also know about the existence of the projects as some of them touted them as  parachute projects. Also, he noted that one (1) project ( Construction of 10 seater water closet institutional toilets with solar powered mechanized boreholes in Tamale) was not found.

Prior to his presentation, the project officer at GACC, Mr Harrison Cudjoe in briefing on the GACC’s intervention stated that the exercise was part of the implementation of Africa Center for Energy Policy (ACEP) funded project dubbed “From Disclosure to Impact-Mobilizing Local Civil Society to Verify Published Extractive Data and Advocate for Equitable Accountable Spend of Funds” and it formed part of the coalition’s social accountability intervention that had build the capacity of local networks to ensure accountability and compliance with oil and gas related revenue.
